How Haridasas saw Rayaru-6

Gopala Dasa (1722-1762) occupies an important position in the Haridasa Sahitya.

Born as Bhaganna to Murariraya and Venkamma in Mosarakallu, he was initiated into spirituality and Dvaita philosophy from an young age.

He was one of the most remarkable poet-composers of his times. He was an ardent devotee of Raghavendra Swamy of Mantralaya and he visited Mantralaya several times.

In one of  his suladis, he talks of the everyday celebration of  piety, pooje and other religious rituals in Mantralaya.

The famous suladi goes as follows:

“Dina Dinakilli Nutana Poojegalaaguvavu
Dina Dinakilli Nutana Utsavagalaaguvau
Dina Dinakilli Nutana Keertigalaaguvau
Dina Dinakilli Nutana Vaartegalaaguvau

Janara Sandani Prati Dina Vipra Bhojana
Janara Kaiyinda Prati Dina Janareepsita Tumbuvaru
Januma Safala Tamma Jananava Neeguvaru

Dina Sapta Varusha Dina Pariyantara
Dinakara Shata Teja Jananatha Taanilli
Anuvaagi Taanindu Janara  Paalipudakkanumana Salladu
Guna Gana Paripurna Gopalavithala
Anoraneeya Yembuvage Yene Yaaro Jagadolage”

Another popular composition of Gopala dasa that is sung even today is “Rathava Neridha Raghavendra”. This is composed in Mohana Raaga and it is sung by almost all devotees of Raghavendra Swamy on Thursdays.

This song is also sung at Temples and Mathas.

His “Rathavaneridha Raghavendra Raya gunasandhra”, Gururaghavendra charana kamalavannu smarisuva manijarigae”,

the Mantralaya suladhi-Tareyolagae namma guruRaghavendrarinnu iruThippa vivarava” , “Kasta samsaaravembo attutuligae na are Krsnoupasakka Raghavendra Guruve” and “Muniya nodiro mukuthi thanava bediro

Vandisi noduva bhare indu mugiyaley raga”, are some of other popular songs on the Mantralaya Seer.
